The Department of Corrections (DOC), Wernersville Community Corrections Center (CCC), is seeking individuals to provide care, custody, control, monitoring, and supervision of the re-entrant population housed at the center.

Corrections Community Center Monitors prepare re-entrants for successful transition back into their families and the community. If you want to leave work each day knowing you are serving the public, this is the position for you! DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this position, you will maintain the daily activity log, observe re-entrant behavior, and conduct searches of common areas for contraband. In addition, you will maintain and inventory re-entrant prescription medications, security equipment, tools, toxic chemicals, and housekeeping supplies; maintain the sign-in and sign-out register for all re-entrants and visitors; and control re-entrant and visitor movement within the CCC.

Additional duties include conducting new re-entrant orientation to the CCC, which includes reviewing DOC and CCC policies, rules, and regulations; providing information on availability of public services; making room assignments; and assigning duties. You will conduct re-entrant destination checks via community or telephone contact, as well as administer and document breathalyzer and urinalysis tests upon return to the CCC. You will observe resident behavior and, when necessary, issue misconducts and attend disciplinary hearings. Additionally, you will conduct daily inspections to ensure cleanliness, safety and security of all areas, and assist with keeping the center inspection-ready. You will also serve as a point of contact for law enforcement agencies.

In this role, it will be important to demonstrate sensitivity to the needs, concerns, and complaints of crime victims and the general public, and take appropriate actions to respond.

Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours may be irregular. Community Corrections Centers are staffed by three (3) work shifts that cover the facility 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. The beginning salary for this position is $18.38 per hour ($38,348 annually). Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Additional Requirements: You must be able to work in Wernersville,  Berks County, Pennsylvania. You must have the ability to work different shifts or irregular scheduled hours. You must have the ability to successfully complete 3 weeks of classroom training at the Department of Corrections Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA. You must be able to perform essential job functions. Preferred Qualifications (not required): Two (2) years of experience performing public safety or security work.(Examples of qualifying experience include, but are not limited to:  public safety or security work involving protection of persons and/or property and maintaining required security through enforcement of rules, regulations and laws; public safety or security work in a correctional setting, juvenile or adult development/detention center, law enforcement entity, or military security experience). One (1) year of work experience providing direction/guidance to individuals. (Examples of qualifying work experience include, but are not limited to:  performing as a lead worker or supervisor assigning and evaluating work tasks, providing informal counseling, or giving orders in the Military).
