    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • New employees of the Department of Military Affairs will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

  • New employees of the Department of Military Affairs are required to participate in a direct deposit/electronic transfer program.

  • The Department of Military Affairs is paid on a monthly basis.

  • This position is a Cooperative Agreement position.

  • As a CANDIDATE, you are required to provide documentation (i.e., High School Diploma or Equivalency, College Transcripts, ETC.) to verify meeting these Minimum Qualifications.

  • Must be able to obtain a completion of a favorable National Agency Check background investigation clearance.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College or University in Environmental Science or a science related field AND One (1) year of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field; OR

  • An Associate's Degree from an accredited College or University with major coursework in Environmental Science or a science related field AND Three (3) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field; OR

  • A High School Diploma AND Five (5) years of experience as an Environmental Specialist or a related field

  • A valid Florida Driver’s License

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance to armory personnel, with their hazardous material handling to include: record keeping, developing inventories, locating material safety data sheets, storage and container organization and labeling, and preparing turn-in documents for hazardous waste disposal.

  • Conduct internal assessments at FALRNG facility statewide including Armories and Field Maintenance Shops to determine compliance with environmental laws and regulations. Input findings into NGB WEBCASS database for tracking and monitoring. Creates and updates spreadsheets, tables, graphs and provides information to Environmental Team Lead on a weekly basis.

  • Review and recommend corrective actions to address non-compliance findings identified during internal and external assessments performed at the armories located in the Northwest region of Florida. Assist units with implementing corrective actions to close findings. Conduct internal assessments of armories as requested to determine environmental compliance.

  • Support the planning and execution of all aspects of the Florida Army National Guard’s Environmental Officer training program. Conduct on-site annual Spill Response and Environmental Awareness training at FLARNG facilities as needed.

  • Respond to spill and other hazardous material releases. Act as on-scene coordinator to ensure appropriate spill response procedures are taken and provide expertise for any clean-up activities.

  • Complete waste determination documentation of known and unknown waste streams to include document review (product labeling, Safety Data Sheets, Technical Data Sheets, and user knowledge) as well as unknown waste streams (conduct sampling and interpretation of laboratory reports).

  • Provide technical assistance to include: review federal, state, and local regulations, policies and procedures and implement as required.

  • Knowledge of the terminology, principles, and analytical techniques of the physical or natural sciences.

  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis principles and procedures.

  • Ability to collect, evaluates, analyze, and interpret scientific or technical data.

  • Ability to prepare technical reports.

  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs.

  • Ability to understand and follow legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.

  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner.

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
