Aero Structures Long Island, Inc. - Westbury, NY is a build to print manufacturer of machined airframe components for the commercial and military aircraft industry. ASLI has an opening for an experienced Manufacturing Engineering Lead to join our team. Position Summary: The Manufacturing Engineering Lead will be responsible for coordinating and leading the activities for the operation and success of the engineering department. You will perform Manufacturing Engineering work related to production, planning and quoting. This position evaluates, develops and organizes manufacturing plans, procedures and requirements for the manufacturing and assembly of commercial and military aerospace programs. Essential Functions: •Maintain accurate manufacturing and engineering records (i.e. bills of material, engineering change notices, work instructions, assemble to order records, and service instructions.)•Review customer contracts and drawings, methodize jobs and prepare job routings with cost effectiveness in mind, monitor and analyze manufacturing issues internal, as well as vendor related nonconformities. •Lead the proposal process to interpret RFQ requirements. •Create and maintain CAD drawings using CATIA V5•Create Manufacturing Plans / Operation sheets for all parts main detail and sub-assemblies. •Carryout / execute activities to meet customer satisfaction (on-time delivery, accurate status, et. al.) •Interfaces with customer as required.•Coordinates all engineering releases and changes relative to routings, setting standards, data entry, and follow-up. •Determines priorities with the Program Managers. •Initiate and direct development of new manufacturing processes or changes with programming department. •Seek input from group regarding mapping and improving the process on all levels; provide feedback to all related areas including Machining, Assembly, and/or Quality.•Establish manufacturing rates, routings and assist in the process of sourcing the parts and components. •Provide shop floor support to resolve daily process related issues by working with program managers, supervisors and direct employees. •Interprets regulations and contracts clauses. •Provides engineering assistance to other departments as needed. •Know and support Company Quality policy, procedure, and standards. •Performs other related tasks as required and determined by management.Education and/or Experience:• Bachelor's degree in related Engineering/Science field and a minimum of 9 years of prior related experience,a.Or, Master’s degree in related Engineering/Science field and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experienceb.Or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related manufacturing engineering management experience• Preferred degrees are in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.Qualifications:•Experience in the manufacture of high quality structural and dynamic parts and assembly’s for commercial and military aerospace programs. •Strong technical background in CNC machining of various metals. •Experience with cost, schedule, project leadership, and/or process improvement.•Experience working with aluminum, titanium, and other hard metals.•Must be proficient using CATIA V5 for model interrogation, analysis, and drawing creation required.•Able to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, models, sketches and GD&T.•Experience using ERP systems. •Understanding methodizing and process improvements.•Must have very strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience in using analytical and problem-solving techniques such as Root Cause Analysis, 8D methods, etc. are desired. Highly developed analysis and problem-solving skills. •Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. •Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and accomplish them simultaneously. •Must have strong attention to detail and ability to organize and prioritize workload/actions independently. •Excellent verbal, written, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. •Proficient skills in MS office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)•Due to our company's position as a key supplier to the US defense industry, All candidates must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States.Preferred Additional Skills: •Experience with Boeing & solid models.•Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and ownership in past projects, roles, or experiences.•Knowledge of lean manufacturing to improve production and quality.•AS9100 principals preferred.•Knowledge and understanding of FAR/DFARS regulations a plus.•Understanding of Customer Contract requirements and clauses.
