Job Description:
Responsible to provide legal assistance and services, including to represent the corporation in general legal and business activities, and prepare corporate documents. Provide legal advice, analysis, and assistance for general business and utility activities. Negotiate, draft, and perform legal review of contracts, agreements, financial and other legal documents with legal provisions to protect the corporation. Advise Legal Department management and peers on legal conditions that may impact Tri‑State's interests and corporate activities.
Note:
There is one position available and the position will be filled at one of four job grade levels: Associate Attorney, job grade 9; Attorney, job grade 10; Staff Attorney, job grade 12; or Senior Attorney, job grade 15. This decision will be based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected, and Tri-State business needs at the time of hire.

Hiring Salary Range: $183,000-251,000

Hiring Salary Range: $140,000-$191,000

Hiring Salary Range: $100,000-$135,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
Responsibilities:
Provide legal assistance and services pertaining to Tri-State’s general business and utility activities
Negotiate, draft, and perform legal review of contracts, agreements, financial and other legal documents with legal provisions to protect the corporation
Examine, interpret, and advise on laws, rulings, regulations, orders, standards, and requirements
Advise Legal Department staff, management and peers of legal conditions that may impact Tri‑State's interests and corporate activities
Counsel and advise Tri-State staff on legal matters
Meet agency and contractual reporting requirements
Represent Tri‑State legal interests in legal proceedings, utility organization meetings, internal and external committees and joint participation projects
Assist with corporate governance including board policies and resolutions
Develop, review and revise corporate and departmental policies, procedures and programs
Identify areas of legal risk and suggest for improvement
Work collaboratively with internal and external counsel, consultants, and business unit staff on project assignments to help identify and mitigate legal risk
Research, prepare and review reports, memoranda, presentations and related materials
Provide leadership, strategic advice, business counseling, and expertise for internal legal resources and business partners to assist in addressing and solving legal, regulatory, commercial terms, and compliance issues
Review, analyze, and investigate legal implications with respect to business decisions and events
Adhere to company policies, programs and procedures
Adhere to appropriate electric utility industry requirements, applicable laws and regulations from governmental, quasi-governmental and governance from organizations related to Tri-State and its subsidiaries
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.
Because Tri-State has an obligation to provide continuous, reliable electric service to its customers, the ability to work overtime at any time of the day or week is considered an essential function of the job.
Qualifications:
Education and Training
Juris Doctorate Degree
Admitted and licensed to practice law in Colorado within one year from date of employment
Knowledge, Skills, and Ability:
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proof reading of own and others work product
Work alone and in groups within the Legal Department and throughout the corporation
Perform legal research and synthesize into written and verbal reports
Prepare legal documentation appropriate to a targeted audience
Ability to analyze and evaluate legal situations objectively, apply legal concepts and principles, and make recommendations for decisions that may have corporate-wide impact
Ability to interpret, analyze and prepare contracts, agreements and other related documents
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Uphold the highest standards of discretion and confidentiality
Self-motivated, able to take direction, and be detail oriented
Appreciate and understand basic principles of finance, accounting, management, utility operation, and cooperative organizations
Excellent computing skills using products such as Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint Westlaw, and Everlaw
