Job Overview:

Support as required the Subsea Engineering and Project Management Team on the aspects related to subsea umbilical and control systems, in the context of conceptual studies, pre-FEEDs, FEEDs, Tendering, EPCI, and T&I jobs. Liaise internally with other engineering disciplines, PMT, Quality, and Supply Chain. Liaise externally with clients, equipment suppliers, consultancies, IVA and regulatory bodies, as required. In tender, specify subsea umbilical systems, liaise with suppliers during tendering/execute stages, and recommend the ideal solution for projects. In executing, follow-on the subsea umbilical engineering (producing relevant documentation and drawings) and the package development, including detailed engineering review, manufacturing/testing, resolution of non-conformances, and readiness for delivery.

During the installation phase, provide ad-hoc support related to subsea umbilical system to McDermott and/or Client. Experienced in project management, project execution, HAZOP and HAZID.To uphold the Company's Vision, Mission, Policies and Values Statement and Corporate Goals. Ability to clearly communicate and explain complex issues and interface with all other disciplines effectively. Ability to manage own time to meet agreed deadlines and budget.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review engineering design basis, specifications, procedures, philosophies, detailed reports, technical drawings and other documentation as required to support different phases of the project, namely: conceptual, FEED, and detailed design of the subsea umbilical scope

  • Elaborate technical scope of works and MTOs based on Client's documentation and Company's procedures, following direct liaison with suppliers and other disciplines

  • Review of technical proposals, close-out of clarifications/qualifications and technical recommendation of subsea umbilical system solutions

  • Elaborate "Technical Readiness Level / Technical Risk Categorization" assessments based on suppliers' provided information and define required tests/assurance measures to be adopted in the execute stage

  • In the lack of consolidated and comprehensive information, support other disciplines, as required, with reasonable umbilical system assumptions and technical insights

  • Adopt pragmatic approach when solving general engineering and umbilical specific related problems

  • Knowledge on the subsea umbilical installation processes and its required engineering interfaces, being capable support on the identification, resolution and close-out of potential technical issues and risks

  • Assist Lead Engineer in providing inputs for actual, planning and forecasting progress reports including associated productivity

  • Support bid proposals, execution statements, schedule and work hours estimates

  • Support in development of Global Procedures, Guidelines Software, and Standards

  • Carry out any other subsea engineering works as and when required by the Company

  • To review and approve the specification, design and supply (by Contractor) of subsea umbilical and distribution systems, ensuring that Project requirements, industry standards and best practices for safety reliability and cost are met

  • To learn and become confident with all COMPANY standards and Project Specification in order to verify Contractor compliance

  • To ensure the performance, installability and operability of the umbilical and distribution systems

  • To ensure that all necessary technical interfaces with other systems or activities are considered

  • To ensure the umbilical and distribution systems meet COMPANY and PROJECT performance, installability and operability.

  • To ensure delivery meets Project schedule and objectives

  • To interface with CLIENT/COMPANY Project personnel

  • Primary engineering point-of-contact for Umbilical and Distribution System Supplier(s)

  • Ensure Delivery of the umbilical and distribution systems align with the Project objectives, technical interfaces and requirements

  • Primary subsea engineering planning and interface for offshore umbilical installation and pre-commissioning activities

Reports to:

Project: Lead Engineer

Functional: Supervising Department Manager

Liaise With: Other engineering disciplines, PMT, Client, Planning, Cost Control, Document Control, Procurement, QA,

Subcontractors, and Vendors

Supervises: Subsea Engineers

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering Discipline

  • 15-20 years of professional experience in design, specification, technical proposal, bid review, manufacturing, delivery and installation of umbilicals

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Experience in handling Subsea Umbilicals [Specification, Procurement, bid evaluation, Vendor data review] and experience working with Umbilical vendors preferred

  • Relevant Instrumentation Engineering experience in handling Topside interface for Offshore Oil and Gas projects

  • Familiar with design codes and standards related to Umbilicals, subsea actuated valves, inspection and testing requirements

  • Knowledge of SURF systems architecture and requirements, including SPS hardware/connectors

  • Proficiency in the API 17E and on its specifics supporting standards such as other APIs, ASME, ASTM, DNV and NACE

  • Proven experience on aspects related to subsea umbilical design, manufacturing, testing and installation, including theory and analysis methods and techniques

  • Consequent ability to support resolution of umbilical systems related design, fabrication and testing issues/non-conformances

  • Knowledge on subsea umbilical qualification/verification testing (procedures, acceptance criteria, testing practicality and testing bench configurations)

  • Ability to consolidate / correlate test results to theoretical models and effective project requirements
