Job Title: Field Service Engineer
Job Description
As a Field Service Engineer, you will collaborate with the Engineering team to test, troubleshoot, install, and commission machines for our customers. You will also provide services to our current machines in the field. This role requires significant travel to customer sites and a strong foundation in motors/drives and PLC experience.
Responsibilities
Travel to customer sites to perform services.
Troubleshoot and repair primarily Allen Bradley PLCs and drives, as well as some Siemens PLCs and drives.
Install and commission automation machinery in mills.
Read and interpret electrical schematics.
Provide excellent customer service during field assignments.
Receive training on programming to enhance proficiency (no programming from scratch required).
Essential Skills
Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, including troubleshooting and commissioning.
Proficiency in reading electrical schematics.
Experience with servomotors and servo drives.
Customer service skills.
Experience with AC/DC motors.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and 2-3 years of field experience, or an Associate's Degree in Electrical (or a related field) and 5 years of field experience.
Experience troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs or similar PLCs.
Experience with Siemens or ABB drives.
Background in the metal, steel, or aluminum industry is a plus.
Work Environment
This role requires around 75% travel, potentially up to a month at a time, followed by a few weeks off. The largest concentration of customers is in the eastern United States, including states such as Pennsylvania, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, West Virginia, Mississippi, and Texas. Travel outside the U.S. is extremely rare. While there is an option to use a company vehicle, most employees use their own vehicles and receive mileage reimbursement at $0.56 per mile. Eligible for a per diem of $55 per day. This position cannot be remote and requires presence in Cleveland when not traveling. A family-based environment where even the owners are involved in engineering projects.
