Job Description Summary

The Technical Leader works within the Advanced Design & Development group of the GE Hitachi Engineering organization. The AD&D team supports the design of advanced nuclear applications through engineering scope ownership of early phase projects and delivering high caliber analysis of complex, first-of-a-kind (FOAK) technologies. AD&D is an interdisciplinary group of problem-solvers with high aptitude and flexibility. The Technical Leader is a senior-band position responsible for the planning and execution of work scope spanning multiple disciplines.

Job Description

The applicant should possess significant knowledge of the design of nuclear systems with direct experience in both systems engineering and mechanical component design. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the team, competitive applicants must have must demonstrate an understanding of relevant disciplines as needed to manage handoffs. The position is designed for a self-starter who wishes to lead complex, FOAK projects. The engineer filling this position will perform the following tasks:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides accountability for the design of advanced reactor concepts and nuclear island systems, and ensures compliance with all relevant codes, standards, and procedures.

  • Manages numerous personnel, tracks qualifications, and co-owns internal design processes.

  • Represents GEH Engineering in customer meetings, provides work direction, and works to maintain the design schedule.

  • Facilitates innovative solutions and reviews and approves work products to assure appropriate standards and processes were followed.

  • Leads efforts to maintain a healthy nuclear safety culture, strives for innovation, and motivates the organization to improve legacy processes.

  • Challenges existing processes and takes a lifecycle viewpoint to ensure designs are feasible and cost-competitive.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSME, BSNE, or closely-related, accredited, four-year degree.

  • Minimum of 10 years of combined engineering experience demonstrating continued growth with subject matter expertise in a relevant systems engineering and mechanical component design.

  • At least 7 years prior nuclear industry experience exhibiting technical leadership.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.

Desired Characteristics :

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant technical discipline

  • Experience with project management tools with evidence of schedule development.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a desire to mentor

  • Prior experience working on Gen IV nuclear designs.

  • Strong grasp of power plant architecture and operations.

  • Cognizant of current industry developments including the role of SMRs, microreactors, and non-electrical applications.

  • Experience in new product development within complex systems.

  • Expertise in ASME and/or CSA standards for nuclear components and pressure vessels.

The base pay range for this position is $112k-160k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 9/30/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
