Qualifications

Education: High School or GED required. 2 Year / Associate Degree preferred (required for validating duties).

Experience: 2 years experience required Acute Care: Prior experience in a minimum of three pharmacy skills (examples may include but are not limited to the following activities: medication distribution, sterile compounding, medication listing, controlled substance accountability, highly privileged ADS, validating duties and/or procurement)...OR...hired as a Pharmacy Tech II Certified, have 2 years experience in acute care and now competently performing a third pharmacy skill as described above. 4 years Outpatient Oncology: Minimum of four years of experience in any pharmacy setting with two years in sterile compounding (of IV and/or chemotherapy admixture). Specialty pharmacy: Minimum of four years of experience in any pharmacy setting required with two years in specialty setting.

Licensure/Certification: Current registry with applicable State Board(s) of Pharmacy required. PTCB or NHA Certification within 60 days of hire required. A minimum of two relevant specialized certificates/certifications from approved vendors such as PTCB, BPTS or NPTA (examples include but are not limited to product verification, medication history, hazardous drug management, billing/reimbursement, controlled substances diversion prevention, medication therapy management, sterile compounding)...or...one additional certificate/certification for technicians with Validating Tech credentials (NC). The additional certificates/certifications must be obtained within 12 months of hire and maintained as applicable required.

  • Additional Skills/Requirements (required): State registration and/or evidence of renewal is required for both Pharmacists and Technicians fifteen days prior to expiration and Technicians are required to be either certified through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

  • Considerable knowledge and application of basic math skills, including ratio and proportion relationships; strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions. Basic technology skills. Other duties as outlined in Novant Health and facility specific policies and procedures. Ability to drive/travel to multiple facilities/locations as needed. Ability to work as part of a high performing, change ready and resilient team.

  • Validating duties (NC only): must complete initial didactic and practical training prior to initial validation. Must obtain 99.7% accuracy rate on initial validation and 99% accuracy in subsequent audits.

  • Additional Skills/Requirements (preferred): Considerable knowledge of medication names (both trade and generic) and their doses, routes of administration, and adverse effects; the ability to demonstrate patient interview skills and strong written and verbal communication skills with other healthcare professionals. Experience with inventory management.
