TE Connectivity in Winston-Salem, NC is looking for a Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer to conceive ideas for new hybrid and electric vehicle connectivity products and introducing them into practice. Gather voice of customer and develop product solutions while working closely with global manufacturing resources and outside suppliers to meet all TE technical, quality, and cost objectives. Adapt and reconfigure existing product designs for performance enhancements, manufacturability improvements, and cost reduction efforts. Submit intellectual property information to legal according to policy. Conduct feasibility studies and communicate product testing requirements. Create all required product documentation including, but not limited to, solid models, drawings, product, and application specifications, DFMEAs, tolerance analysis, and test plans & reports. Maintain engineering control of product related documentation via the engineering change system. Direct and support detailed product design, prototype fabrication, testing, and manufacturing ramp. Work closely with the new product launch teams and the final manufacturing location to ensure smooth launch of products into the production facility.

Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or foreign equivalent), plus 5 years of experience in the job offered, or in a related occupation.

Special Requirements: Requires 5 years of experience with the following:

1) Automotive terminal and connector design and manufacturing.

2) Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and assembly design principals.

3) Technical tools such as 3D CAD (such as Creo) and CAE (such as ANSYS).

4) DFMEA derivation and communication.

5) Hybrid and electric vehicle architecture and connectivity system knowledge.

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.
