The Challenge

We are hiring a transportation worker II to join our Forsyth County Maintenance team.

In this role, you will:

  • Perform manual and equipment operational work in the maintenance of highways in Forsyth County
  • Operate highway equipment, such as a patch truck, dump truck, sweeper, roller, and skid steer.
  • Install traffic control and temporary erosion control devices.
  • Flag traffic.
  • Perform crack sealing and asphalt patching.
  • Install pipe culverts.
  • Operate hand and power tools.
  • Monitor tasks performing by inmates.
  • Clear right of ways and respond to emergencies, such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, traffic control cleanup, during normal business hours or during emergency call situations and scheduled night work.

What You Bring

  • Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
  • Working knowledge of Work Zone Safety and Workplace safety policies.
  • Experience in 2+ pieces of Category B Maintenance equipment: asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor A boom mower, truck with aerial device.
  • Experience in 1+ of the following: pipe installation, erosion control device installation, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance, or asphalt patching.
  • Experience in snow and ice removal operations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, talk, and listen.
  • English language communication skills.
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
  • A Class A Commercial Drivers License with a Tanker (N) endorsement. (Dont have it? STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
  • Transport inmates to work details.
  • Ability to get an inmate card approved by the NC Department of Public Safety.
  • Safety toe shoes.
  • You are 21+ years old.

Notes

You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions including ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, and work in high volumes of traffic and around heavy construction equipment.
