Job Summary

Are you ready to embark on a journey where your expertise meets meaningful impact? As a Software Test Engineer, you’ll work with developers to evaluate software developed for the Unmanned Aircraft Systems focused on Intelligence, Surveillance, Recognizance missions for the Air Force. You’ll work on creating or following a test plan with test cases based on requirements and user stories. Using automated and manual processes, you’ll generate data and implement the test cases to observe how the software performs, then document the results and communicate defects to the development team so they can improve the system. You’ll help automate continuous testing and help monitor the health of our developed tools. This testing will greatly assist the programs understanding of requirement fulfilment and system maturity to support efforts to transition the system to deployment. The successful candidate for this position possesses an understanding and proficiency of aircraft and autonomous system software, software test systems, and requirement verification processes. This role will be part of a team supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in a research and development effort to prototype and transition an autonomous ISR capability operating at the edge to detect, identify, track, maintain custody of and report on high value targets.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Complete systems and software validation & verification assignments

  • Develop test cases/description documentation based on requirements, design inputs, and per defined processes.

  • Help develop automated test code/scripts/simulation and integrate into testing frameworks per defined tools and processes.

  • Complete peer reviews of test documentation and code per the defined processes

  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Software & Architecture, Test & Evaluation, HW/SW Integration and Simulation teams on successful completion of the verification lifecycle

Basic Qualifications

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Secret clearance or ability to obtain a secret clearance

  • Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in or Minor in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, Data Analytics

  • Experience authoring, reviewing, or testing software source code in modern development languages, i.e. C++, Python, Java

  • Experience in modern Integrated Development Environments, i.e. Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Jupyter Notebook, etc.

  • Experience in modern version repository systems and CI/CD pipeline development systems, i.e. Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps, etc.

  • Experience with technical quality assurance, including creation of test cases, test suites, requirements traceability, and end-of-test reports

  • Experience with open architecture systems

  • Experience with Agile development and working closely with developers to provide collaborative feedback

  • Knowledge of functional testing, backend testing, automation, and data validation using web-based applications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with autonomous system software, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, research and development, or system prototyping projects

  • Proficiency working in remote teams

  • Experience with containerized software runtime architectures, i.e. Kubernetes, Docker
