This position is responsible for landscaping and ground maintenance activities at the Village Creek Golf Course. The Landscape Technician performs groundskeeping activities, such as pruning, mulching, weeding, and planting trees and shrubs. Other job duties include operating a variety of groundskeeping equipment, maintaining the irrigation system. and other duties as assigned. Familiarity with, and the ability to perform preventative maintenance on mowers and groundskeeping equipment is required. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, be able to work a varied shift, including weekends and holidays, and be able to work in all kinds of weather. A driver's record check will be performed.

Applicants must meet or exceed the following qualifications : The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus three years of experience performing groundskeeping and landscaping activities. Summary

The Landscape Technician is responsible for duties encompassing all aspects of landscape and turf installation and maintenance. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Functions

Performs detailed routine pruning of ornamentals, including trees, shrubs, and flowers. Performs routine planting of trees and shrubs, including proper staking, mulching, and watering. Performs planting of seasonal bedding plants two to three times yearly. Provides routine mulching and weed control in all landscape beds, including trees, shrubs, perennials and annuals. Assists with landscape renovations and new landscape projects as directed. Performs detailed routine mowing, string trimming, and edging of turf grass. Performs cleanup following mowing, edging, and landscaping. Operates push mowers, string trimmers, power pole pruners, hedge trimmers, chain saw, and backpack blowers. Maintains equipment, tools, and supplies used in daily grounds work activities, reporting any repairs and needs to appropriate supervisors. Maintains irrigation system and monitors for water leaks (wet spots), hot spots (dry areas), or other suspicious irrigation malfunctions and reports to the appropriate supervisor. Responsible for leaf and pine straw mulching and removal. Performs daily pickup of litter, twigs, leaves and branches. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of landscaping and lawn care, particularly proper planting, pruning, pest management, mowing, irrigation installation and repair, and other maintenance related duties. Ability to work under minimal supervision. Ability to perform grounds tasks and general labor. Ability to operate grounds keeping equipment. Ability to follow oral and or written instructions. Ability to read and decipher chemical labels. Ability to work in inclement weather. Ability to work on a team. Ability to coordinate events through to completion. Ability to perform multiple tasks. Aptitude for attention to detail.

Minimum Qualifications

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus three years of experience performing grounds keeping and landscaping activities. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
