General Summary

Participates in the Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program. The Clinical Pastoral Education Residency Program is, as the title implies, both clinical and educational. Residents are selected from among applicants who have had adequate training and experience to enable them to provide spiritual care to patients, families and staff in the System. Residents are trained for advanced professional work in spiritual care. The resident is paid a stipend which enables this year of clinical education. They are thus employees who serve as chaplains providing care for patients, families and staff.

This ministry may include both in- and out-patient spiritual care. They will normally keep those assignments throughout the year.* If a clinical area/service line has interdisciplinary rounds, residents will be expected to attend as schedules permit. Administratively the educational program will try to be planned around these times.* Residents are required to keep a statistical record of their visits and other activities on a Clinical Ministry Record and/or the "Encounter Card" provided by the department.* Other chaplains are expected to get approval from the designated chaplain in a service line before visiting or following up on a patient in that area.* Interaction with patient's home clergy when necessary is expected with patient's permission.

  • On-Call Expectations: * Full-time residents are expected to administrate the on-call program in cooperation with chaplain interns, night ministry staff and the administrative assistant. * When applicable, the on-call resident will be responsible for Pre-Operative spiritual care visits. However, other residents, chaplain interns and staff may be available to make these calls, if possible. * It is the responsibility of the on-call chaplain to answer all traumas, codes, deaths, requests for visits, as well as round through all nursing units when on-call.

  • Organizational Responsibilities:* Residents will receive a stipend, the amount of which is stipulated in their letter of acceptance. They will also receive health and other benefits as provided by WellSpan Health.* Residents are responsible for attending employee and CPE orientation and meetings on safety, security and infection control, and documenting their attendance.* Residents are responsible for becoming familiar with the department and WellSpan Health policies and procedures and being accountable for such to her/his supervisor.* Residents are responsible for providing orientation, tour of facilities and feedback to supervisor in the interview process of residency applicants.* Residents will maintain their year-long commitment to the CPE residency program.
