Scope
The Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the planning, design and development of electrical test fixtures that are used in the development and manufacture of electrical medical products. The Senior Electrical Engineer must be a self-starter showing initiative to solve technical problems and may operate with moderate direct supervision.
Essential Functions
• Contribute to the design & development of new products, engineering test equipment & manufacturing fixtures.
• Participate in the product development cycle providing input on design for manufacturability design for testability, electrical best practices etc.
• Design, develop and test electrical test fixtures to be used in engineering and production.
• Verify the operation of test fixtures developed in engineering and repurpose/transition them for use in manufacturing.
• Conduct feasibility studies, determine manpower and cost estimates, and develop engineering criteria that must be evaluated in manufacturing.
• May prepare project development timelines and status reports for manufacturing engineering tasks in compliance with corporate and divisional design control requirements.
• Integrate, test and deploy new electromechanical test systems in manufacturing
• Participate in transferring products from engineering to manufacturing by monitoring & analyzing pilot production runs
• Prepare verification and validation documentation as required.
• Schedule and supervise the verification and validation of the performance of test equipment after deployment.
• Schedule and perform fixture maintenance, repair, computer upgrades etc as required
• Develop & update test and manufacturing procedures in compliance with corporate and divisional design and manufacturing control requirements.
• Provide technical direction to technicians and production associates as needed.
• Schedule and install test/manufacturing fixtures at off-site vendor facilities
• Train Manufacturing/vendor personnel on the use of new test equipment/procedures
• Support the process of continual process improvements
• Participate in sustaining engineering efforts and communicate manufacturing issues to engineering.
• Use computer-assisted engineering and design software such as LabVIEW and MATLAB and equipment to perform assignments.
• Use electrical test equipment such as Oscilloscopes, Function Generators, Spectrum Analyzers etc to debug problem with test and production equipment.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Typical Background
Education:
• Typically requires Bachelor's degree in specified discipline plus 10 or more years relevant work experience or a Master's degree plus 7 or more years' experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Key Required Skills, Knowledge and Capabilities:
• A capable Senior Electrical Engineer with 10 or more years’ experience in design and development of electrical hardware used in commercial/medical products.
• Knowledge of a specialized nature within the field such as Digital/Analog circuit design, Labview, microprocessor firmware and/or FPGA development.
• Ability to analyze sophisticated technical problems to determine an appropriate course of action to resolve issues and develop novel solutions
• Curious to learn new techniques and keep up with the current state of the art in electrical development. Have the drive to leverage new techniques as part of the effort of continual improvement of existing processes and procedures to increase productivity and reduce overhead.
