Shire Global Program Management Lead (Geographic Expansion) in Zug, Switzerland
The Global Program Manager Geographic Expansion (GPM) position is a high impact, leadership role responsible for key elements of program strategy and cross-functional execution within Shire’s Late-stage Global Product Teams (LPT). The GPM role requires a talented individual with proven expertise in leading cross-functional teams and driving product strategy, planning and program execution. The GPM, in partnership with the Global Development Lead (GDL), Product Strategy Lead (PSL) and Program Manager (PM), will drive Geographic Expansion program management and ensure clear and timely communication of program strategies, implementation plans and program progress. The GPM will work to ensure the cross-functional teams operate effectively with positive global team dynamics driving product development. The GPM is expected to be knowledgeable about the overall development program in order to be strategic in planning, program progress oversight, communication and process management, delivering high quality program management expertise, leadership and other high value services that support the team and improve the probability of program success.
The GPM, together with the GDL and PSL, provides the strategic vision and guides the team in developing integrated plans to successfully execute the strategy. The GPM will be responsible for one or more programs with clearly defined objectives for entering new markets.
The GPM will:
Coordinate and drive the planning processes for the product/program in partnership with the GDL/PSL/PM for a new market entry , i.e. Target Product Profile, Product Strategy, Product and Program Plans, go/no go Stage Gate Review criteria, Lifecycle Management, Brand Plans, Budgeting, Long Range Planning
Work closely with the GDL/PSL/PM to facilitate the elaboration, approval and execution of the global program strategy for a new market, as well as facilitate the decision-making process for their development program(s) Work independently to provide best-in-class operations and program management expertise to drive team members towards excellence in execution
Maintain the overall development plans and enterprise R&D portfolio inputs
Prepare presentations to Senior Management reporting on progress, milestones and risks associated with new market entry; Be able to synthetize and structure information
Collaborate with GDL, PSL and functional team members to ensure coordinated evaluation of product opportunities and/or scenarios and development of comprehensive, integrated recommendations (e.g. to Governance Committees) and strategic and operational product plans based on program defined objectives. Facilitate collection, alignment and validation of sales and marketing budget ensuring alignment to the product/program strategy
Lead, facilitate or support (as a subject matter expert) cross-functional team meetings (agendas, minutes, tracking actions, etc.)
Facilitate team goal setting and tracking to ensure adherence to plan and strategy, and end of year team evaluation process
Coordinate communications to ensure team member alignment
Issue and present reports to senior management on a routine basis
Provide clear direction on product development requirements to meet expectations of external customers and business stakeholders
Be responsible for making decisions regarding the appropriate risk when there is substantial program impact
Lead other cross-functional projects (either strategic and/or operational) as required
Reinforce team operating principles to maximize alignment within the team and with other functions.

Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in drug development in a pharmaceutical environment
Minimum of 5 years of cross-functional program management experience
Demonstrated ability to manage complex cross-functional teams and processes
Held responsibility in a previous role for complex data analysis; financial project management experience a plus
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent proficiency a plus
Strong knowledge and understanding of global drug product development
Strong understanding and competency in planning processes and decision making
Demonstrated experience using standard program management tools and software including integrated development plans, timelines, risk management, and budget development and monitoring
Training, coaching and leadership experience
Demonstrated finance and business acumen
Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or related field required; advanced degree in life sciences or MBA preferred

Guiding cross-functional product teams through program planning and execution and leading teams in issue resolution and risk management is inherently complex. This requires a high level of problem solving capability and ability to balance competing priorities and quickly and objectively drive the team towards a path which maximizes value.
Working with a cross-functional team to develop robust arguments and tactics supporting recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders.
This role requires the incumbent to rationalize both strategically and tactically, and be able to present recommendations to senior leaders and key stakeholders.

Other Job Requirements
Approximately 35% International and domestic travel as required, Travel to Asia (1 week at a time, once or twice a year), expected travel to Shire site in Cambridge (MA, 1 week at a time)
