International Commercial Data Partner

The purpose of this role is to provide expert level support to Shire’s International Commercial business (the world, ex-US) concerning secondary data (including secondary market research, sales and prescription data, market information among others) and attendant project or other services (all referred to in this job description as ‘Data’.).

The successful candidate will also help relevant stakeholders derive insights from stakeholder analysis of Data.

The individual in this role should be knowledgeable about available Commercial Secondary Data and aware of current business needs.

He or she will also be expected to plan for future needs as the healthcare market and Shire’s business evolves.

This person will closely work with IT to ensure the appropriate management of available data.

The successful candidate will be someone who will be seen by stakeholders as one of a group of experts on Data. This will be achieved by leveraging the successful candidate’s current experience which will be further developed by working with the Commercial Data Management team and with Data suppliers to identify solutions to fill any gaps identified by the business. The high level of complexity in understanding Data across International markets means that effective communication about the strengths and weaknesses of these sources is vital for the role.

Stakeholders will range from colleagues in International Commercial and Global Product Strategy (both of which functions sit in the Swiss HQ) to Commercial stakeholders for defined key countries. The successful candidate will need to be able to lead projects, prioritize requests and plan and organize analysis.

This role will also be responsible for ensuring awareness and understanding of how to use already available Data. Therefore this person will be responsible for setting up appropriate trainings, meetings and webinars with stakeholders.

This role is part of the Global Commercial Data Management Team, which is reporting into the US Commercial Organization. Therefore it will be required as necessary to collaborate with counterparts based in the US, to ensure that the most appropriate Data is procured for relevant stakeholders in a cost effective and efficient manner. This person will also be expected to collaborate with colleagues in franchises, regions and relevant functions (for example: market access, sales force effectiveness, CRM, MDM, business/geographic expansion, etc) to ensure there is no duplication of data purchase and that functions are utilizing the best available Data for their needs whether directly or indirectly.

This position will be responsible for managing relationships and leading negotiations with key international vendors. As part of this, the person must be able to analyze and communicate Data purchase contract provisions to relevant stakeholders as well as be aware of Shire policies (in particular the Contracting and Data Privacy policies).

As the Data will be utilized throughout the organization, this role will be responsible for ensuring this data is made available to markets (as permitted by contracts) and used appropriately.

The person in this role will also be expected to work closely with the International Procurement Lead, US Data Partners and the Global Commercial Data Lead for role development and to meet business needs.


45% of time:

  • Understand business’ Data needs and use to drive decision making

  • Ensure Data purchases address business priorities in a cost-efficient way

  • Attend to contract negotiations for Data purchases (in collaboration with Procurement and stakeholders)

25% of time:

  • Provide recommendations on the most appropriate data sources to address business questions across HQ functions and assigned LOCs

15% of time:

  • Proactively communicate with stakeholders about and train stakeholders on available Data

15% of time:

  • Lead the Data Work stream of key projects involving Secondary Data vendors

5% of time:

  • Support key stakeholders with ad hoc analytics and insight generation to ad hoc business questions. Undertake ad hoc analysis on Data when required

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Master’s degree preferred.

  • vast experience in the pharmaceutical industry with expert knowledge of secondary data sources and suppliers across International markets

  • In depth knowledge of the International pharmaceutical market and the differences between markets that influence stakeholder interactions

  • Experience in Rare Disease and/or specialty markets would be an advantage

  • Strong skills in data analysis and in the technical packages (Dataview, Excel), including advanced excel functions to ensure quick and effective data analysis

  • Excellent project management skills focusing on projects involving multiple stakeholders (e.g. IT, Procurement, CRM Partner)

  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to establish logical and story flow and skilled in choosing best graphic representation for points to be made. Experienced presenting to senior management, with strong Microsoft Office skills especially Excel and PowerPoint

  • In depth understanding of senior sales and marketing managerial expectations and requirements in Pharma industry

  • Strong experience of working with as well as exploring multiple vendors, including IQVIA/IMS

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills across and up and down the organization
